Punch Networks Receives Fourth US Patent for Automated File Synchronization
Patent issued for method of dynamically storing and updating PC files over the Internet
SEATTLE, Wa, January 27, 2003 - Punch Networks, a global leader in secure Web-based file storage, collaboration and synchronization, announced today that it has received its fourth U.S. patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its technology invention "On-line database updating network system and method." The issuance of this patent adds additional protection for the company's "instant updating" technology enabling subscription-based businesses to securely store, deliver, maintain, and synchronize files and software for Internet users worldwide.

"This patent is further validation of our established leadership role in the emerging area of web services, specifically for remote authentication and file synchronization services," said David Campbell, Punch Networks' Chairman and President.

The patent, #6,377,951, was issued on April 23, 2002. It covers Punch Networks' technique for automatically and securely delivering and updating electronic, files, software applications, and even databases to any form of computing device over the Internet.

The patent encompasses the ability to detect even the smallest changes made to an electronic file, regardless of file format, and to deliver any detected changes synchronously or asynchronously to remote copies of that file anywhere on the Internet.

This technology has a variety of uses, including enabling automated updating of consumer-installed third-party software packages, automated and efficient updating of frequently modified electronic files, and automated archival and synchronization of software and data across the Internet.

A full copy of the patent is available online via the Punch Networks web site at http://www.punchnetworks.com or via the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office at http://www.uspto.gov.
